Rich Satterfield - Biography
Some people are musical prodigies, set to take the world by storm with their incredible talents and abilities from the very outset. This CANNOT be said of Rich Satterfield. In fact, Rich's music career took almost 20 years before finally getting underway and the road was anything but easy. After auditioning for a popular television reality show whereby contestants attempt to win a studio album as a grand prize, Rich began writing his own songs and playing in local establishments and festivals in the Metro-Detroit Area.
In 2007, he released his first EP, Live and Learn, which was recorded with a friend and fellow Detroit artist. The album featured 7 accoustic tracks including the title track, Live and Learn, in which Rich recounts some of the struggles of an American kid trying to make it in the world - car wrecks, lost loves, etc. Tracks like "Any Other Way" reveal Rich's desire to bring music to the people by any means necessary and the driving "One Way Track" display the emotions that accompany a lost flame. "I think overall this record was really about letting people know me. It's simple and it's to the point, but people tend to like that. If nothing else, the project gave me a good place to start," says Rich of the 2007 release.
Starting point in deed.
In 2010, Rich would return to the studio, this time with another close friend and aspiring Detroit artist/producer/engineer, Ken McMillan and come out firing on all cylinders. The finished product was a second EP, Just A Little Longer, with a full accompanyment of instruments and cleaner tones. Songs like "Headed Home Again" and "When I Get There" reveal a great deal of the spiritual growth that Rich underwent during his early 20's and his desire to make a Chrisitian impact on the local music scene. Tracks like "Bound to Be" and "I Knew All Along" bring a lot of energy and drive to the record. In addition to the new tracks, the Just A Little Longer EP also contains full accompaniments of previously acoustic versions of many tracks.
Looking ahead, Rich is excited to start playing again after a two year hiatus to pursue his High School Teaching Degree. Bringing a positive message to people and sharing tough times and testimonies are what it's all about. The music speaks for itself...
